It's amazing how many devotees' first taste of Krsna consciousness was The Bhagavad-gita As It Is. That's how I came to Krsna consciousness too. I was reading the Gita while traveling at the age of 17, when I first met devotees in New Orleans. I gave the devotees some change for a magazine but, at that time, didn't realize they were followers of the author of the book I was reading. And I didn't read the magazine. A couple months later I wrote to the L.A. address for more info and eventually visited the Chicago temple, and joined the movement a couple months later.
Krsna says, in Bhagavad-gita, "I am seated in everyone's heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness..." Krsna is so kind that He allows us to forget Him in order to taste material enjoyment. When we become completely frustrated, He helps us to remember Him.
